I used to program in Basic years ago and have a good knowledge of MS VBA and VBA scripts as well as html. I now only do high level project design requirement spec work and testing as part of my day job, so high level logic etc. no problem but I have not had to program any complicated code in many years.

I have decided to learn either C++ or Turbo Delphi Pascal for the main reason of developing my own strategies in Forex Tester.

Can I ask opinions as to which language would be recommended to spend my time learning? From what I have researched Pascal (Delphi) is a bit easier to learn but C++ seems more useful in that more apps are programmed in it?

Thanks for any advice for a very rusty ex programmer. Smile

Both languages have their benefits, but you would probably find Delphi a better path if your main goal is to program for FTPro.

1. Delphi, while considerably different from VB, is more like it than is C++.

2. There are more examples available in Delphi than in C++.

3. Most of the programmers on this forum work in Delphi, so you'd have more fellow FTProers who can help you.

4. Delphi can be had for free, but I don't know of a free source for a C++ download.

Anyway, you can be successful with either one, so there is really no wrong choice. Good luck!

I can add that ForexTester was written with Delphi only. Wink
