|
|
I need to determine best hardware req. for FT simulations. I am not talking about minimum hardware requirement, rather the opposite. I need maximum hardware profile. So my question Did FT developers Bench marked different hardware with FT? I mean 2,4,6 core CPUs; latest video cards, memory. I use pretty heavy programming with heavy graphic output and need ADEQUATE (MOST POWERFUL SYSTEM) that would support such task. (I do experience hardware limitations and thinking of building a new PC)
***
The other way around would be asking FT developer(s): To Which popular applications FT simulation can be compared to in terms of the hardware use.
There are many bench mark tests published. Question is which of them most closely reflects FT hardware demands. For instance some 2D video Games can be compared to the math simulation
***
Thank you. |

For Forex Tester most important component is fast hard drive, because it works with huge arrays of data cashed on HDD and does many read/write operations during test. Second is processor. But HDD is the main bottleneck. We did not do benchmarks really, because for many users regular system configuration is enough. _________________ Hasta la vista

| So Intel SSD for Hard Drive and 6 core CPU should max it |

Metatrader7 - I am interested in doing the same thing due to FT - Optimizer
Currently OCZ - Vertex SSD have best write speed but I would rather go with Intel SSD if write speed is not the bottleneck using FT - Optimizer. What was your experience with Intel SSD in RAID0 ?
B.T.W. I have I7 - 920 and I am never more than 25% CPU useage with FT so HD is the bottleneck. I have seen video of Multicharts running on I7 920 overclocked and the CPU was maxed out |

I too am interested in this topic. I've been using ForexTester for almost 2 years and it's a very good application, but the testing that I do is very resource intensive.
I've thought of putting together a machine that would run FT exclusively but I'm not sure what requirements I would need in order to "overkill" the machine.
Again, interesting topic. Anything that would make my back tests run faster would be worth every penny. |

Well I purchased 2 OCZ 40GB SSD drives from Newegg, installed them in RAID0 format. A test with ATTO showed my drives are now 6.5 times faster than my top of the line SATA II WDC Crevier Black HDD drive and 13 times faster than my Seagate IDE drive.
But with SSD drives in RAID0 format there are issues to be aware of
-Partition allignment - handled by Vista and Win 7 but not XP
-Trim - handled by garbage collection with OCZ drives
-unneeded functions in Windows and in Firefox like indexing, superfetch, defrag
-You need good backups since RAID0 provides no recovery ability RAID10 does provide recovery.
Tried FT Optimizer, last time the test took 3 full days to run, this time less than 12 hours. Over 600% improvement over my Crevier Black SATA II drive and 1300% faster than my Barracuda IDE drive |

Yes nice discussion I have also used ForexTesters. It was good experience for me. |
