|
|
I would like to place a MA in the same window as the one where I have my RSI. This would be an indicator window below the main chart window. Basically what I need is to be able to see when the RSI line crosses the MA line. MT4 allows me to do this but I can't seem to find a way to emulate this in ForexTester. Apparently ForexTester only allows me to put the MA in the main chart window. Please explain if and how FXTester will allow me to configure my intended setup.
Thanks very much.

I don't believe that FT allows more than one indicator to share an indicator window, though I think that Mike has said he plans on adding this capability in the future.
More importantly, though, I don't know how you could get an MA and an RSI to work together in the same window, because they are on very different scales. For instance, the MA of a currency pair might vary in a range of 1.8000 to 2.2000 over a long period of time, but the RSI would move between 0 and 100. The RSI would almost never be low enough to cross the MA, and in fact the MA would probably just look like a straight, flat line at the bottom of the RSI.

Tantalus, thanks for your response.
Here is a screenshot of how it is done in MT4. The attached screenshot shows the MA crossing the RSI in the RSI window. The screenshot also shows how the MA is setup in MT4. You can see that it is a Simple Moving Average applied to the first Indicators data (RSI). If I understand correctly, the MA values are derived from the RSI values with this kind of setup. I'm interested in your comments in terms of whether this will eventually be possible in ForexTester.
Thanks again.

OK, I see what you're saying. You're creating an MA of the RSI, not the price itself. This is from the Fozzy method, isn't it?
Anyway, I think Mike is planning to add this capability in the future, but you could write a custom indicator now that would achieve this. It's possible that someone already has... I'll look around and see what I can find.

Tantalus, I'm stoked you found this. Yeah, this is for the Fozzy method. What I've been doing is go back into MT4 and record the cross dates on a paper then typing them into Excel along with whether I should buy or sell. My plan was to then go into FXTester and carryout the trades according to the cross dates. You finding this should save me at least an hour per pair and I'm looking at 15 pairs. I've done near half that.
Fyi, I'm using the Bollinger Bands different from how Fozzy used them. I'm placing them directly on the price chart instead of in the indicator window. I then use the middle SMA of the BB to help determine trailing stops.
Thanks again. You've been great help. I'll check out your link.
