newbie starting with delphi

hi i want to use FT with automated testing. i decided on delphi. i have previous limited coding and design experience in VB but no knowledge about delphi. i found out there is the free/ open source lazarus project. i also know about the light version of delphi for beginners (costs $ 259 where i live). of course i prefer free, but not if it brings all kind of problems (bugs, incompatibility etc etc). in that case i prefer to spend $ 259. what do you advise me is the way to go?

You can try out Lazarus but i like Delphi much more because it is more mature and bugfree.
