Strategy Optimizer - no trades after first pass

#1 Postby SquareMeal » Wed Sep 29, 2010 10:08 pm

When I use Strategy Optimizer, I only get trades on the first pass.
For example, I select one parameter to optimize: StopSizeInPips.
I indicate that I want to start with 5, increment by 2, and end with 15.

On the first pass (set at 5), it generates trades and statistics.
Then I can see the 5 increment to 7 near the bottom of the screen.
The green bar moves across as it makes another pass throught the tick data, but no trades.

Each pass increments... 9... 11... 13... 15... and then it stops because it is finished.

Probably something wrong in my code, but I haven't a clue how to find it.

Hello,

Please try to run the startegy with StopSizeInPips=5 and StopSizeInPips=7 in Testing mode (not in Strategy Optimizer).

Can you see trades in both cases?

In testing mode I got the same result:
The first pass, with the parameter set at 5, generated trades.
When I changed the parameter to 7 and started the test again, no trades.

So... this isn't Strategy Optimizer, but there is something I am not resetting in my logic?

Would it make a difference if the first test ended with an open position? (this might be the case... I'm no longer at my computer to see, but I remember that happening at least once).

Thank you for your help.

Hmm please try to restart Forex Tester to reset all variables and then run the test with StopSizeInPips=7. Let me know if you can see trades in this case.

While waiting for your response, I went with my hunch and initialized from variables that had not been initialized. That solved the problem -- I have tried several scenarios and cannot duplicate the original problem.

Thank you.
